Tauba Auerbach
Tauba Auerbach
With a deeply intellectual sensibility grounded in scientific reason and mathematic principles, Tauba Auerbach (b. 1981) creates artworks that test perceptual limits. Deploying a range of media—from painting and photography to book and jewelry design—they often explore the boundaries of linguistic systems or spatial logic, with a particular focus on the poetic possibilities that emerge at the point of breakdown. Inspired by an interest in topological studies of shapes and spaces, Auerbach has produced paintings that resemble crumpled sheets of paper, as well as monochromatic woven canvases that create visual undulations of recession and projection. In the two works on view, they used infrared technology to document the natural patterns found in heat energy, a particularly apt subject in an age when the Earth’s climate grows imperceptibly but dangerously hotter every year.
